FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Sherpa is the on-demand app safely connecting runners of all speeds with a personalized guide. No longer do you have to wonder where to exercise safely or change your schedule to fit those of others. Now, Sherpa provides you with a one-on-one running partner, ready to go when you are, where you are, at your pace.
When New Zealander Edmund Hillary became the first man to make a recorded summit of Mt. Everest he couldn’t have possibly done so without his guide, Tenzing Norgay. Norgay, a Tibetan climber, helped make his ethnic group “Sherpa” synonymous with reliability, safety, and camaraderie during the journey. We honor that history by providing the same type of unflappable access to reaching the highest athletic goals that Norgay did for Hillary.
Using your smartphone app, you simply put in the location you wish to run from, the time you wish to start, add in other variables such as the pace you want to maintain, and the distance you want to trot, and you will be presented with a list of Sherpas in that area who meet all your criteria. Once you chose the Sherpa which tickles your fancy, a dialogue between you and the Sherpa will commence to set up the final details of the run, all on your schedule.
After setting the criteria for place, distance, and pace, you will be presented with a list of Sherpas who are available and fit what you need. At that point, you can read their reviews, check out their rating, see what other variables they possess (e.g., badges earned over time which paint the personality of each Sherpa) and select the Sherpa who fits your exact specifications!
We are building a network from coast to coast of reliable, safe, friendly Sherpas so if there aren’t any which meet your search criteria, we promise they are on their way. You can help by telling all the runners you know to sign up, as word of mouth will help spread Sherpa far and wide!
Just fill out the form here, submit it, and once it is reviewed and your background check has cleared, you can start offering your guidance to all runners. Getting paid to run? Yes, please!
Obviously the faster you are, the more people you can theoretically run the correct pace for, but Sherpa is open to all speeds of runners. We just ask you to be realistic with what you can maintain pace-wise, so that the runner using your guidance gets the experience they deserve.
Before booking any Sherpa, a runner will be able to see what the estimated cost of their run will be. The total will be determined by a number of factors, but the two major variables will be how far you run and at what pace. That said, you are looking at roughly $20 an hour for this personalized safety running buddy. Considering most personal trainers charge more than $100 for that same hour, that’s one heck of a bargain!
As a Sherpa is doing the bulk of the effort with regards to the running, pacing and guiding, they are also receiving the bulk of the percentage of the payment coming in. As with the costs above, the exact payment given to each Sherpa will vary but we value your time and energy and wouldn’t be doing this if we couldn’t make it worth your sweat!
All users of Sherpa, both guides and runners, will have to submit to a background check. In addition, all users will have to fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. We know there are some reasons why someone might not choose to be vaccinated and we appreciate that possibility. But Sherpa wants to provide for the health and wellness of gatherings of people and one way to do that is to do our part to help end a deadly pandemic.
